"I figured something out, guys," Auser announced, waking me up from my daydream.  I twisted my body from its reclining position on the cold metal bed to see him.
"Remember how Tracy was complaining about how we need a name?" He continued, keeping his voice loud enough so we could hear him.  He was standing up, leaning against the rocking metal wall, his face in the shadow.  Hanvec was on the floor, her back against a cardboard box.  "She wasn't complaining, really," she mumbled and I felt Tracy nod next to me.
Auser ignored this and continued,  "Well, I've got one: The Thorns."
We were quiet for a while and then Hanvec spoke up.  "Why?"
Auser straightened up and I burrowed down, getting ready for some big and complicated reason as to why we were going to be called "The Thorns."
"You see," Auser started, clearing his throat.  "We're rebels.  We aren't well liked and everyone tries to pull us out and get rid of us.  But we come back and we make sure we're known.  We grab onto something and don't let go until we leave our mark on the world."
It was quiet again, except for the sound of the railroad cars jostling together.  "I'm going to be a pretty thorn,"  Hanvec said, her hands brushing her hair out of her eyes.
I chuckled and Auser shook his head.  A peaceful silence fell in the car and I started to nod off.
"I don't know," Tracy said, looking off into the distance.  "I think I'd want to be a painless thorn."
